Beyond Paper charts: Harnessing the Power of Electronic Navigation with the use of the ECDIS

DNV’s Maritime Academy Hellas is offering on 1 February 2024, a one-day course on ECDIS – Electronic Chart Display Information System in cooperation with Costamare Maritime Training Services S.A.

Electronic navigation in the shipping industry requires, vessels, crews, shipping companies and managers in general to adapt to the new requirements of navigation and preserve a safe and productive environment. Training, education, diligence, monitoring and most importantly updates of e-charts and publication to be in line with the requirements. The day-to-day operations on board the ships have changed drastically and navigating officers, especially the newcomers, should be familiarized, prudent, competent and well prepared in order to build a safe, efficient and productive environment.

Emphasis will be given on:          

• The interpretation of the STCW Manila Amendments for ECDIS training and revalidation of certificates of competency
• Passage planning – transition to ECDIS
• Updating and Maintaining ECDIS
• Checklists for Master
• Checklists for the Ship operators & Managers
• Checklist prior vessel’s certification (paper less)
• Legislation
