he World Ocean Council (WOC) and the City Council of Barcelona are pleased to announce an invitation-only workshop focused on identifying actionable priorities for scaling up industry participation in the collection of ocean, weather and climate data – which is the mission of the WOC SMART Ocean – SMART Industries (SO-SI) programme.
This working session will expand and accelerate the collaboration between industry, the science community and other key stakeholders in advancing voluntary observations by the private sector.
The workshop will begin with a case study panel on industry/science collaboration featuring Swire Shipping, Fugro, Ponant, Central and Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS) and others.
This bulk of the workshop will be a moderated forum for interactive discussion of a select group of representatives of the ocean observations community to understand and address:
![]() | What does “success” look like for industry involvement in voluntary data collection? |
![]() | What are some of the best practices to date? |
![]() | What are the key barriers to success? |
![]() | What can the WOC SO-SI programme do to best scale up success and address the barriers to success? |
You do not have to be an approved UN Ocean Decade Conference participant to join the (in-person only) workshop, but we do require that interested parties apply to participate, as space is limited.
