The Jolly Verde, a full-container ship with a capacity of 6,300 TEU, just entered today into the fleet of Ignazio Messina & C. S.p.A., marks a milestone in the company’s history, being the largest vessel in the “Linea Messina” history.

The Jolly Verde is the first of two particularly versatile sister ships suitable for traffic to/from the Middle East and India: previously owned by a German shipping group that employed it in the charter market. The ship, renamed Jolly Verde by the Genoese company, will be entrusted to Captain Francesco Scotto di Fasano from Procida, whose crew consists of 22 seafarers, 19 of whom are Italian.

With the purchase by Ignazio Messina & C. S.p.A., the Jolly Verde will change flag (previously Portuguese) and will fly the Italian flag registered in the Compartimento Marittimo of the Genoa Coast Guard.

283 meters long by 40 meters wide, with a deadweight tonnage of 80,000 tons, the Jolly Verde is capable of carrying 6,300 TEU. Delivery took place today at 12.30 in the Belgian port of Antwerp.
