Mitsotakis visits Chios

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ snap visit on the Island of Chios was more than a success.

A crowd of Nea Demokratia supporters greeted him at Chios’ capital main square, Vounaki, a good walk at Aplotaria – main shops area with shipping offices nearby where the prime minister met traders and the Chian public…

He visited the “Gialas army barracks” for the celebrations of St. George, the Greek Land Armed Forces patron saint; he was accompanied by the chief-of-staff of the Greek Armed Forces General Dimitrios Choupis and other officers, spoke with servicemen, briefed on the weapon systems available in defending the island, and paid tribute to the memorial there by laying a wreath.

Moreover he said during his meeting with local authorities at Chios’ Mansion House – the mayors of Chios, Psara and Innousses messrs Yiannis Malafis, Kosta Vratsanos and George Daniil and other members and representatives of local commercial, trade and tourist organisations, that all planed major works on the island are being monitored by his office and expressed his feeling that same, although a bit delayed, will be in order and delivered prior the end of his tenure – within the next three years of his present government. These include the damn at Gefiri Koris, the Justice Mansion, the “Homer’s Airport” – extension of the runaway and building/terminal which he said moves fast and will be delivered soon, thus enhancing the Tourist factor with bigger aircrafts landing.

Add the reduction of the illegal immigrants coming over from the Minor Asia coast (Turkiye)…

He also visited the offices of the North Aegean Region and he was fully briefed by the deputy governor there.

Lastly, he visited the Masticha Research Centre of the Union of Mastic producers of Chios meetings its president George Toumpos and CEO Yianni Mandalas expressing also his optimism on Mastic’s future which creates and conquers the greek and international markets with its many unique multi products…

He also paid tribute to the Museum of Slaughter at the Holy Monastery of Saint Minas where he was guided by the Metropolitan of Chios Markos and saw the exhibition of the Chios Massacre by the Ottomans in 1822…

The countdown of the European Elections has started and let’s hope his governing party makes an easy win for the benefit of Chios, the Aegean and Greece in its entirety!
