A double win!
HAROPA PORT voted Best Green Seaport and Best Seaport in Europe by the magazine Asia Cargo News
On Tuesday 25 June, HAROPA PORT received the prizes Best Green Seaport and Best Seaport in Europe for 2024 at an AFLAS (Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain) awards ceremony held in Shanghai by the Asian publication Asia Cargo News.
The 2024 titles of Best Green Seaport and Best Seaport in Europe were awarded to HAROPA PORT by Asia Cargo News magazine readers. The AFLAS awards ceremony took place on Tuesday 25 June at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Shanghai, the world’s leading port for container traffic. The two awards were handed to Krishnaraj Danaradjou, HAROPA PORT’s Deputy General Manager for Development, and Cédric Virciglio, HAROPA PORT’s Strategic Planning Director in the presence of Hervé Bonis, head of the Seine Port Union. HAROPA PORT and Seine Port Union are committed to decarbonisation and the creation of a green corridor along the Seine Axis for high-performance, sustainable logistics.

Competing against other world-class ports including Hamburg (Germany), Long Beach (United States) and Singapore, HAROPA PORT was voted both Best Seaport in Europe and Best Green Seaport by the 15,000 readers of the magazine Asia Cargo News. This dual recompense reflects the attractiveness and competitiveness of France’s leading port complex in the Asia-Pacific region.
These prizes reward the programmes implemented by HAROPA PORT and the port communities in reconciling economic development with the ecological and energy transition.
This is the 7th time that France’s number 1 port has been voted Best Green Seaport (in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022), and the 8th time it has been the recipient of the Best Seaport in Europe award (in 2011, 2021, 2013, 2014; 2017, 2018 and 2019).
The award criteria include:
– Maritime offering diversity and development capacity;
– Speediness of goods throughput;
– Smart port strategy and programmes;
– Compliance with goods transport regulations in the area of ecology;
– Investments in the ecological and energy transition.
Asia Cargo News is an English-language magazine intended for Asia-Pacific logistics chain and freight professionals. Every year, the magazine’s editorial staff, based in Hong Kong, organise the Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards (AFLAS). The prizes, attributed on the basis of voting by the publication’s readership, reward actors in logistics and transportation for quality of service, innovation, customer relations management, respect for the environment, the energy transition and reliability of goods flows.

Where Best Green Seaport is concerned, HAROPA PORT was notably rewarded for its twin goals of supporting the structural organisation of its multimodal logistics corridor and strengthening its decarbonised industrial ecosystem.
– Organisation of the Seine Axis green corridor: HAROPA PORT will be starting work in 2024 on the river access channel to Port 2000 and on “Port Seine-Metropole Ouest” (PSMO), a multimodal platform project in the west of the Greater Paris area, and is working to enhance all service connections to Le Havre’s Port 2000, aiming to strengthen the offering of multimodal logistics services along the Seine Axis.
– Dock electrification: Along the Seine Axis as a whole, 44 electricity connection points have been installed on quaysides under the management of HAROPA PORT and the French Waterways Authority (VNF), allowing an annual 4,300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions to be avoided. By the end of 2024, 82 additional connection points will have been installed. By 2026, the aim is to have reached a figure of 132 quayside connections on the Seine basin to meet the needs of users.
– A “New Fuels Valley” is coming into being: HAROPA PORT will be hosting two major projects for the industrial-scale production of renewable, low-carbon fuels (biomethane, e-kerosene and hydrogen).
