The 2023 Absa Africa Financial Markets Index produced by OMFIF revealed that product diversity has continued to expand across the continent, with the availability of Islamic financial products and ESG assets becoming more widespread. Africa’s first gender-linked bond was issued on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in August 2022Tanzania’s first sukuk bond was launched in November 2022The first blue bond in Cabo Verde was listed in January 2023
Eight countries in the 2023 index offered Islamic financial products on exchanges or over the counter. And nine offered ESG-related assets, with more looking to build their sustainable financial markets.
