This Year’s Unique Gift at the HESGB 2025 Gala: A Hand-Sculpted Shell Pendant by Dimitris Roussetos
This year, the ladies attending the HESGB 2025 Gala* were gifted a unique, hand-sculpted shell pendant by a renowned Greek sculptor inspired by nature. Dimitris Roussetos, an Athenian artist with roots in the Cycladic island of Andros, embodies the essence of Greek artistry. His art gallery, Kohyli, nestled in the heart of Chora in Andros, serves as a wellspring of creativity, drawing inspiration from Hellenic aesthetics and a profound love for nature. Notably, one of his sculptures, a majestic white marble owl, graces the Presidential Office of Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace (see photo just below).

This year, HESGB is celebrated its 30th anniversary ball with a special occasion. To commemorate this milestone, Dimitris has created a unique collection of hand-sculpted brass (ορείχαλκος) shell pendants. The artist Dimitris Roussetos commented about his involvement at this year’s event: ‘’I found inspiration for this collection in the mission of the Hellenic Engineers Association in Great Britain, specifically its connection to ancient Greek shipping history, maritime traditions, and the profound influence of the sea. These elements, deeply ingrained in Greek culture, resonate with my own creative vision.

I feel immensely honoured to present attendees with one of these exquisite shell pendants as a token of appreciation for their participation in this event. I believe my creations will serve as lasting reminders of the enduring legacy of Greek maritime excellence and hope that attendees will enjoy them’’.

Each pendant was first formed using moulds and then meticulously worked by hand. The brass was oxidized adding depth and character to the design, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece reminiscent of the scallop shell’s association with Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, love, fertility, and pleasure. Dimitris’ sculptural creations, characterized by the harmonious interplay of water and earth, are crafted using ethically sourced materials: gold, silver, precious gems, wood, and elements from the earth itself. Dimitris’ handcrafted pieces are renowned for their timeless elegance. Each design showcases intricate and delicate details, often reflecting the beauty of the marine and natural world. This deep connection to nature infuses his jewellery and sculptures with layers of light, personal significance, and enduring value.
