
Site Teams’ Quality Control Inspections in the Shipbuilding Yard
DNV’s Maritime Academy Hellas is offering on 27 and 28 March 2025, a course on how to establish a reliable site team in order to achieve quality control inspections..
Course Objectives
To enrich the capabilities and knowledge of all participants, to establish an effective and reinforced site-team to respond to all complicated and specialized requirements of any N/B project (regardless the previous experience of the participants, or how organized is the shipbuilding yard).
In parallel, this training course will offer different directives, instructions, examples for the Managers of each shipping company, to organize and protect effectively the Owners’ interests to any shipbuilding yard plus to attend also closely all the shipyard activities, from the project commencement and up to delivery of every newbuilding.
Focus points:
This course uses presentations, case studies, actual examples and specialized exercises to illustrate the following topics:
- Analysis of N-B contract, description of production milestones and of key events.
- Description of yard production programs
- Completion stages of drawings plan approvals
- Describe yard obligations for tests, inspections, trials, measurements, shops tests.
- Analysis of yard production schedule
- Prepare overall schedule plan
- Issue detailed job descriptions
- Criteria for selection and appraisal of all inspectors.
- Employment of site team inspectors and signing “employment contract”.
- Training of selected inspectors
- Organize “kick-off” meeting in yard
- Contents of initial meeting and follow-up activities.
- Yard Quality Assurance Manual, procedures, standard practices, final ITP, NDE plan, welding procedures, dock & sea trials programs / schedules.
- Familiarization of site team staff to all yard facilities
- Check possible subcontracting and outsourcing
- Descriptions of yard schedule plans
- Review and analysis of yard daily inspections
- Site team cooperation with Class Inspectors
- Description of yard schedule plans for blocks prefabrication, hull erection, vessel’s outfitting and guidance how to estimate production delays.
- Keep control of outstandings and defects and ensure their rectification.
Who should attend: Technical and Newbuildings Managers of shipping companies, plus Fleet and Operations Managers, Site team Managers and Superintendents with (direct, or indirect) responsibilities for yard negotiations for major projects.
Same course can also assist lawyers and staff of legal departments (of shipping companies), who shall participate in such negotiations, but actually they need technical knowledge and experiences to deal successfully with yards.
