In October 2023, the beloved Lady Portaitissa Church in Astypalea suffered a devastating fire, tragically caused by a baptism candle. This historical and spiritual landmark, which has stood as a beacon of faith and heritage for centuries, was left in ruins.
Determined to restore the church to its former glory, a dedicated Restoration Committee was formed, and since then, relentless efforts have been underway to rebuild and preserve this sacred site. Thanks to the unwavering support of the local community and donors, significant progress has already been made. The goal is clear: to ensure that Lady Portaitissa Church is fully restored and ready to host the Easter service.
