The Solent Cluster has launched a set of easy-to-follow ‘How-To’ Guides to help local businesses take practical steps toward cutting their carbon emissions.

The online guides at https://www.thesolentcluster.com/projects/the-solent-lidp/  are part of the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan (LIDP), which brought together industry leaders and academic experts to chart a course toward reducing industrial emissions in the Solent – one of the UK’s most significant industrial regions.

The project was funded by the UK Government’s LIDP competition, in partnership with Innovate UK (IUK) and supplemented by contributions from project partners.

The newly-published ‘How-To’ Guides provide insights from this year-long collaboration, offering actionable steps for businesses embarking on their decarbonisation journeys.

The nine key guides Include:

  • How to decarbonise manufacturing processes
  • How to build a Scope 1 & Scope 2 GHG emissions baseline
  • How to use Artificial Intelligence to help industrial decarbonisation
  • How to explore plausible futures with communities
  • How to find skilled staff for decarbonisation activities in the UK
  • How to upskill staff for decarbonisation activities in the UK
  • How to decide what decarbonisation solution is best for your organisation
  • How to find feasibility consultants for decarbonisation activities in the UK
  • How to establish policy for decarbonisation.

These free resources are accessible and practical for organisations at various stages of their decarbonisation efforts. They address critical aspects such as technological implementation, workforce development, policy formulation, and community engagement.

Anne-Marie Mountifield, Chair of The Solent Cluster, said: “Cutting carbon emissions is a huge opportunity for our region. It means cleaner air, more skilled jobs and a stronger economy. The work we’ve done over the last year has shown that while decarbonising is a big challenge, there’s also a lot of ambition and great ideas already happening right here in the Solent.”

The ‘How-To’ Guides follow on from the recently published LIDP Transitioning Pathways report, which sets out a roadmap for industrial decarbonisation across the region.
