Pop-up saunas everywhere. Saunas in the Eurovision Song Contest. Saunas in international media. Saunas are a hot trend right now, but we have not yet experienced an outdoor sauna on the waves of the Baltic Sea – except for this summer, when a sauna that seats six will open up on the sundeck on board Viking XPRS.

This summer, you can enjoy the Baltic Sea’s most exotic sauna while sailing between Helsinki and Tallinn. On June 6th, a sauna that seats a maximum of six people will open up on the sundeck on board Viking XPRS so people can take a sauna while travelling between the two capitals. The sauna, which is bookable for every departure with Viking XPRS, is already heated when the vessel leaves its berth. The sauna also has its own terrace area where people can cool off and enjoy the sea views, for example, in a sun lounger.

“New sauna concepts are constantly opening up all across Finland – why not the Baltic Sea as well. The idea of a sauna on the sundeck started out as an April Fool’s joke, and then our partner Hartwall got enthusiastic about the idea and wanted to carry it out with us. The unique XPRS Original Long Drink Sauna on Deck 7 has borrowed its shape from a Finnish Long Drink can, and the price of a two-hour booking includes a bucket filled with Hartwall grey sauna drinks,” says Ossi Ruusunen, Viking Line’s Beverage Manager.

Sauna times are booked in advance, when people book their trip. The booking includes a cabin for showering and a robe they can use before changing back into their clothes, all included in the price of the sauna.

“I think a sauna on board is something that will interest all of our customers, from groups of friends to families. Saunas are trendy now internationally too, and the number of foreign visitors on the Tallinn route is constantly growing. Now our international guests can combine two authentic Finnish experiences: a cruise and a sauna,” notes Ossi Ruusunen.
