Type Approval DayOn Tuesday 12 April Lloyd’s Register organised at its premises in Piraeus a Type Approval Day for the members of Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters (HEMEXPO).

Scope of the event was to further the already established relationship of LR with the Greek Shipping Equipment Manufacturers and provide their representatives with an update on product certification, type approval processes and developments on Product Lifecycle Assurance services LR can offer.

The agenda of the event was developed on three main axes: how LR can support the industry’s business through type approval, what investments LR has made to provide the service the manufacturers expect and how LR can cooperate with manufacturers in order to promote the Greek presence in funded projects as well as in joint industry initiatives.

Helen Polychronopoulou, founder and Chairman of HEMEXPO highlighted the importance of continuous research and development in the manufacturing industry and praised LR capabilities in adding value to products through their services and experience in research and innovative technology projects.

“It is important for HEMEXPO members to build solid communication lines with service providers like LR having vast experience in cutting edge technologies. Receiving feedback regarding projects that are currently under development is valuable to be able to project ourselves into the future, develop our equipment and become better”, said Mrs Polychronopoulou. “The path towards innovation is long and painful, especially in terms of cost. It is important for us to have your support throughout this procedure from the stage of the concept to the commercialisation of a product.”

Theodosis Stamatellos, Lloyd’s Register Regional Marine & Offshore Manager Greece, Eastern Mediterranean and Adriatic (GEMA) attended the event and commented: “our intention is to maintain and strengthen this communication channel with HEMEXPO and I am very glad to host its members today at our premises. This communication has to develop on two axes: provide you with feedback on the different projects LR is involved in and share with you the activities of the LR Foundation which can prove helpful for you to expand your own activities. It is worthwhile noting that the LR Foundation invests in research of breakthrough technologies but also further supports the translation of ideas and research outputs from the laboratory to industrial application”. Mr Stamatellos closed the event inviting HEMEXPO and Helen Polychronopoulou personally to become a member of the Lloyd’s Register Hellenic Technical Committee.
