Flying the flag!
The town of Aigio will be the 11th stop of the “Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences”, which is carried out by HELMEPA across 14 Greek towns and cities between 2014-2017 with the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF).
The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness among students and teachers on the themes of the Campaign and to inspire children in the Greek periphery to learn more about science, engineering and technology in the service of humanity and the environment, thus giving them access to information and facilities that they otherwise may not have had.
The Campaign’s activities will be carried out under the auspices of the Municipality and in cooperation with the Municipal Development Enterprise of Aigio, while the environmental Exhibition will be hosted at the Cultural Center “Alekos Megaris” from 14 February to 2 March 2017.
In cooperation with the Environmental Education Departments of the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Achaia, HELMEPA will transport to the exhibition, on the Campaign’s expenses, 700 students from primary and high schools of Aigio and 300 students from the adjacent city of Patras, that are already implementing educational programs about the sea.
The opening of the Exhibition will take place on Tuesday 14 February, at 12.00. It will remain open for schools daily from 09.00 to 13.00 and for the public until 15.00.
Furthermore, a ‘train-the-trainer’ Seminar for Teachers titled “The marine environment and us: ensuring a sustainable future” is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 1 March along with other voluntary activities, in cooperation with the Environmental Education Center of Akrata and other local stakeholders.
