Lock chamber closure at Kiel-Holtenau |
Wednesday, April 12, 2017, Kiel Canal, Germany |
One big lock chamber at Kiel-Holtenau will be closed from 18 April to 30 May and from 6 June to 18 July for refurbishment.
Generally, all westbound vessels will be requested to inform Kiel Traffic on VHF Ch 67 at least 2 hours prior arrival Kiel-Lighthouse. Authorities will issue a frequently updated “lock allocation plan” for all vessels, according to their ETA-message. Vessels will be informed about their fixed lock-availability and fixed sequences (with numbers) to enter the lock. If a vessel is not able to keep its announced ETA, it will be allocated again for a possible later locking. If a vessel will drop anchor at Kiel Roads (for repair works or waiting for berth availability), it will be allocated again for locking but not preferred and treated as new arrival. For eastbound traffic the pre-announcement of lock availability will be given well in advance to keep bigger vessels waiting near Elbe-1 and avoid congestion on Brunsbüttel Roads.
