For approximately 5 months, marine works involving reinstatement of seawall will be carried out within the following areas:
WORKS AREA 1
This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shoreline:
(A) 22 deg. 18.758’N / 113 deg. 57.044’E
(B) 22 deg. 18.743’N / 113 deg. 57.038’E
(C) 22 deg. 18.756’N / 113 deg. 56.999’E
(D) 22 deg. 18.771’N / 113 deg. 57.006’E
WORKS AREA 2
This area is bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (E) to (H) and the adjacent shoreline:
(E) 22 deg. 18.670’N / 113 deg. 57.215’E
(F) 22 deg. 18.656’N / 113 deg. 57.206’E
(G) 22 deg. 18.676’N / 113 deg. 57.171’E
(H) 22 deg. 18.690’N / 113 deg. 57.181’E
The works will be carried out by one crane barge. One tugboat will provide assistance.
A working area of approximately 50 metres will be established around the crane barge. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the barge.
Silt curtains, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established around the boundary of each works area. The silt curtain is a large piece of netting used to contain mud and sediments. Yellow markers buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtains.
The hours of work will be round-the-clock.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

New mobile crane order to boost handling

A ninth mobile harbour crane has been ordered by port solutions provider Qube Ports to increase its material handling and reduce crane operator overloads at Sydney.
The crane, which is due to be delivered later this year, can lift up to 144 tonnes, has a maximum radius of 54 metres, and comes with the SmartGrip bulk handling option which enables it to handle materials with different densities with the same grab.

Testing of AUV off St John’s Island

Testing of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) will be carried out off St John’s Island from 9 to 20 July.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine Notice No.070 of 2018 dated 6 July 2018, the testing will be carried out from 0900 to 1800 hours daily, within the working area bounded by the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum):
1) 01 deg. 13.133’N / 103 deg. 51.137’E
2) 01 deg. 12.960’N / 103 deg. 51.229’E
3) 01 deg. 12.925’N / 103 deg. 51.137’E
The work boat will deploy and recover the AUV by crane. A safety boat will be in attendance at all times to warn and re-direct craft in the vicinity to keep clear of the working area.
The craft will exhibit the appropriate local and international day signals.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
a) Keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
b) Maintain a proper lookout;
c) Proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;
d) Maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 68 (West Control);
and
e) Communicate with West Control on VHF Channel 68 for assistance, if required.
