Truck driver protests around port
Wednesday, July 11, 2018, Lagos, Nigeria
An ongoing strike and protests by truck drivers and motor boys is causing disruption to traffic into and out of Lagos port.
Most recently, protestors shut major roads in Apapa on Monday (9 July) when they marched through Creek Road to Liverpool before diverting to Point Road where they prevented cargo-laden trucks from exiting Apapa.
The march was part of an ongoing strike action by the truck operators. Truckers have requested all demurrage waived for the duration of the strike. Negotiations are ongoing.
Port operations are continuing as usual, despite the disruption to traffic.
