Wildfires in Attica, Greece

by admin

Fire Smog covers the plain of Athens

As you read these lines, there are over 500 burned down house and 200 destroyed cars only in Rafina, north east of Attica, Athens. The destruction according to the Mayor of the town of Rafina Vangelis Bournous is despicable.

At the port of Rafina, crafts from the Hellenic Coast Guard are evacuating the people and tourists who are stranded there. There are many dead, dozens of injured and many unaccounted for. The fire burns now inside the town of Rafina and its neighbourhoods as the one house burns the one next door… One good sign is that the wind force has been halted…

We will revert with more news soon from the other regions such as Kineta, Mati, Neos Voutzas and other regions in Attica. There are also wild fires in other Greek regions. The entire region is in a state of emergency.
