Tuapse Sea Commercial Port nine-month cargo volumes totaled 9.4 million tonnes
Cargo traffic at Tuapse Sea Commercial Port (TSCP Group, part of UCL Holding) in January-September 2018 fell 10.9% year-on-year to 9.4 million tonnes showing different trends in dry cargo and liquid bulk cargo segments.
The decrease should be attributed to a 24-percent decline in liquid bulk volume, to 3.76 million tonnes.
Positive trends remained in dry cargo segment — 5.7 million tonnes (+0.7% versus 9M’2017). Coal exports decrease to 2.03 million tonnes (-12.8% Y-o-Y) was offset by a considerable growth (+18.5%) in ferrous metal volume to 2.2 million tonnes, including 2 million tonnes of slabs (+35.5%).
The upward trend in ferrous metal segment is the result of efficient cooperation with the port’s strategic partner the NLMK Group. Besides, TSCP Group has been consistently implementing its modernization program, including overhaul of its berths and storage facilities as well as upgrade of a fleet of gantry cranes and rubber-tired vehicles.
In the reporting period grain exports fell 2% year-on-year to 1.42 million tonnes.
Handling of imported fruits and vegetables continued recovery after the ban on imports from Turkey was partially lifted and the volume totaled 31,900 tonnes (vs 5,500 tonnes handled a year earlier). Exports that constitute the largest share of TSCP’s annual throughput, fell by 11.7% yea-on-year to 9.3 million tonnes, while imports volume reached 0,14 million tonnes.
Between January and September, TSCP Group handled 558,000 commercial ships (239 dry cargo carriers, 319 oil tankers) and 83,648 railcars.
