Is it the Bunker prices that floor-down the BDI now at 791… or what?
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost 53 points as well as the 800 point threshold. Geopolitics are expected to be explosive as ever… John Faraclas’ brief market recap:
The Capes’ once again on a triple-digit fall – the loss today was 117 points with the BCI down to 1,271 and the 1,300 point threshold lost!
The Panamaxes’ BPI down to 845 – minus 45 points…
The Supras’ BSI was down to 611 – minus 31 points and
The Handies’ BHSI was down nine point to 434 points.
The Wets with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 1,509 – up nine and 877 – minus 15 points respectively.
The WTI at US$ 62.70 – minus 57 cents from yesterday’s US$63.27.
All in all a strange market and the gap in the Dry sector widens; it now stands at 1,956 points (2,247 minus 791).
In the Geopolitical front we all await to see either another US action or an Iranian response and thereafter full scale war or diplomatic action to de-escalate the situation. Everything is possible.
The Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis had an important meeting during his official visit in Washington with USA president Donald Trump and all await the result of this meeting vis-à-vis the multi tension in the Aegean, Balkans, Central and East Med stirred-up by Turkey as well as on business between the two nations and NATO allies!
The MIGRANTS issue continues and wonder when the shit hits the fan what will happen; the Greek Islanders in the Aegean Sea had enough. In general Brussels MUST end up this despicable mess not just in the Aegean but all over Mediterranean Sea. Obviously at the other side of the Atlantic, things must also settle between the USA and Mexico.
On another tone and note all is set for the IMES 12th maritime Conference “2020. A wind of change in Shipping Finance & Green Shipping. Do the Charterers demand or prefer Green Shipping. What are The Shipping Finance Alternatives in 2020?” at the Athens War Museum on the 9th of January. A good timing to challenge the stakeholders!!!
