London, 12 October 2022 – Voy, the company building the digital, liquid and sustainable future of global trade finance, has appointed ESG and marine specialist, Steven Matthew, as the firm’s ESG and Maritime Advisor. The appointment further strengthens Voy’s position as a leader in ESG solutions for shipping, supply chain, financiers, banks, corporates and sustainable trade finance.

Steven brings his diverse expertise as a marine engineer, lawyer and commercial executive in the shipping, trade and cleantech fields. With Steven’s unique experience and a lifelong passion for the oceans, he will be a great asset for Voy as it seeks to reduce trade finance risk, enhance transparency, and sustainably improve global supply chains. He will be advising on maritime regulations, trade finance and related ESG frameworks.

For over 14 years, Steven has led the development of cleantech companies in the Asia-Pacific region to drive commercially developed technologies that mitigate and prevent pollution in our oceans, combat the spread of marine invasive aquatic species, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help avert climate change. He has most recently worked as Managing Director in Hong Kong and Sydney at Pacific Green Technologies with its suite of energy transition technologies to tackle climate change.

Steven has been a Board Director since 2014 for A Plastic Ocean Foundation, a charity dedicated to turning the tide on plastic pollution which produced the award-winning feature-length documentary “A Plastic Ocean”. In 2020 he wrote the chapter on international and national legal frameworks about marine pollution for the Ocean 3C initiative delivering on the marine sustainability curriculum promoting marine literacy for students across Hong Kong.

Voy seeks to accelerate the digital transformation of the $20 trillion annual global trade flows by reducing inefficiencies and injecting vital once unattainable liquidity. Focusing on building transparency of supply chain carbon emissions and supplier tracking, Voy is leading the charge in positive environmental change and green energy investing with sustainable finance.

Steven Matthew, ESG and Maritime Advisor at Voy, said: “Marine is lagging in ESG and Voy will provide transparency to help those seeking and providing trade finance to verify emissions from businesses, vessels and the treatment of the crew. I am excited to be a part of the Voy team to modernise trade ensuring it runs effectively and sustainably by enhancing transparency around typically hidden governance issues.”

Lee Tarone, CEO of Voy, comments: “We warmly welcome Steven. His passion and breadth of experience related to the marine environment and climate change make him an excellent addition to our team. Voy is unlocking previously unattainable finance to accelerate global trade. While this is about moving goods from warehouses and enabling trade flows, Voy’s goal is to ensure that this acceleration is sustainable and prioritises true transparency, proper governance and protecting the environment.”
