A Monegasque princess was one of the last victims of the Terror following the French Revolution. Princess Marie-Thérèse, wife of Prince Joseph, the son of Honoré III, was 27 when she was guillotined on July 27, 1794. One of her last acts was to cut off her hair and send it to her two daughters, aged 9 and 7. Monaco was annexed into the Alpes-Maritimes and was known for some time as Fort Hercule.
