FEBRUARY 14, 2023TURKEY: P&I COVER ISSUE

Members are alerted to the agreement reached between the International Group of P&I Clubs and the Government of Turkey regarding the Government of Turkey’s requirement that ships carrying crude oil and transiting or entering Turkish waters from December 1, 2022 (extended to December 2, 2022) must provide letters of confirmation from the owner’s P&I club attesting that cover will remain in place while the ship is in Turkish waters.

This same agreement now applies to ships over 300gt carrying petroleum products (listed in MARPOL Annex I – Appendix I) through Turkish-controlled waters.

Members are advised to contact the Association for further information and to provide documentation evidencing their due diligence findings in relation to vessels carrying such cargoes, as well as crude oil cargoes.

Members are further advised to provide, at minimum, a three-day notice to the Association when requesting the issuance of such a letter of confirmation in order to not experience delays in its issuance.

Your Managers recommend that Members take note of this information and be guided accordingly.
