Inaugural voyage on Rosslare-Cherbourg route takes place as service becomes the most frequent between Ireland and continental Europe

Stena Line expanded its service from Rosslare to Cherbourg yesterday (Friday) with the inaugural voyage of Stena Vision, making the Swedish-owned ferry company the operator with the most frequent Irish crossings to continental Europe.

Providing unrivalled comfort and choice for passengers, Stena Vision, which has gone into operation alongside Stena Horizon, increases frequency on the Rosslare to Cherbourg route to six departure days and 12 sailings per week as well as significantly bolstering capacity.

Passengers were welcomed onboard with a complimentary glass of prosecco, while there were special gifts for the first freight and leisure guests. With Stena Vision also boasting 42 pet friendly cabins there was also a special presentation to the first pet traveller.

The refurbished vessel can accommodate up to 1,300 passengers and has 485 cabins, more than any other ferry currently sailing from Ireland to the continent.

Providing a wide selection of accommodation ranging from standard cabins to deluxe suites, Stena Vision also has a luxurious Pure Nordic Spa offering soothing saunas and Jacuzzis, as well as a variety of beauty treatments including manicures, pedicures, facials and massages.

Guests can enjoy a choice of dining options, including an all-inclusive buffet restaurant, a drink in one of the bars including the Sun Deck with stunning sea views and onboard Stena Vision passengers will also enjoy live musical entertainment over the summer months.

With a Game Zone and Happy World play area there’s lot to keep the kids entertained while free and payable Wi-Fi is also available onboard. For bargain hunters The Shop offers an extensive range of fragrances, alcohol and gifts all at great value prices.

The “Stena Vision”

Stena Vision’s Senior Master, Seán Boyce, said he was proud to take charge of the cruise ferry for its inaugural voyage to Cherbourg.

He said: “After a busy period of getting everything in place and conducting extensive sea trials with Stena Vision, it was a special feeling to welcome passengers onboard for the first sailing.

“Now as the peak summer season approaches, we can offer our passengers unrivalled choice with a range of top-class facilities which means your holiday can start the moment you step onboard.”

Stena Line’s Travel Commercial Manager, Irish Sea, Orla Noonan said the inaugural voyage was a full sailing.  Stena Line’s pet friendly policy was also proving popular with those onboard.

“Travel bookings are strong for the summer period and our pet-cabins have also been incredibly popular with almost 60% of them booked, but there is still some availability for the peak months and beyond.”
