In the 2024/25 financial year, Uni-Tankers delivered strong growth and a net profit in line with expectations – a solid result given the geopolitical uncertainty currently affecting global markets. The company enters the new financial year with a larger fleet, strategic contracts, and a strengthened global presence.
The Danish tanker shipping company Uni-Tankers has just released its annual report for 2024/25, reporting a net profit of USD 39.5 million and a revenue increase of 24.4%.
“It has been four years since we completed our turnaround, and for the past three years, we have consistently delivered solid profits. This confirms that our strategy is working and that the trust placed in Uni-Tankers by our owners continues to be rewarded. We have stayed true to our strategy, worked with clear intent, and demonstrated strong market insight – and we continue to see the results of our long-term, focused efforts. It is an achievement the entire organisation can be proud of,” says Per Ekmann, CEO of Uni-Tankers.
Fleet expansion and strategic growth
The positive development is driven by several strategic initiatives, including the expansion of the fleet from 41 to 47 vessels – marking the largest capacity in the company’s history and reinforcing its position as a provider of efficient and modern transport solutions. The fleet expansion includes several ECO-designed tankers such as M/T Selandia Swan – a sister vessel to M/T Fionia Swan – and the newbuilding M/T Marex Nina, named after Nina Østergaard, CEO and co-owner of parent company USTC. The fleet growth is further supported by a strong order book with more newbuilds on the way.
Balanced business model and strong presence in Asia
The company’s robust performance is also the result of a balanced business model, with approximately 50% of activity in the spot market and 50% in long-term contracts. This mix has ensured stable earnings and reduced risk exposure in a continuously volatile global market.
At the same time, Uni-Tankers has strengthened its presence in Asia and will open a new office in Singapore this July as part of a focused effort to enhance competitiveness in the Far East.
“Our growth is not just about more and larger vessels – it is also about strategic investments, due diligence, and talented people. I especially want to highlight the dedication and commitment of our colleagues, who have done an outstanding job across the entire organisation,” says Per Ekmann.
Energy optimisation of the fleet
On the environmental front, Uni-Tankers has intensified its efforts to support development and innovation in green technology. Through the CLEANSHIP project, the company is collaborating with the Danish Technological Institute and the Mærsk McKinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. The initiative aims to reduce black carbon emissions and install energy-saving devices and wind-assisted propulsion on selected vessels.
Strong outlook for the coming financial year
Despite global uncertainty and geopolitical tensions in regions such as the Middle East and the US, Uni-Tankers expects a pre-tax profit of around USD 30 million for the upcoming financial year.
The 2025/26 strategy will continue to focus on operational efficiency, digital development, and attracting and retaining top talent.
