On Friday, March 27, 2026, the inauguration of the new CT scanner at the Naval Hospital of Athens took place. The equipment was donated by Angelakos (Hellas) S.A. This donation constitutes the first phase of a twofold contribution, the second part of which is a Medical Oxygen Production Unit and will be completed next April.
The Commander of the Medical Affairs Department, Rear Admiral Sotirios Moraitis HN, highlighted the support that the scanner’s state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities provide to the medical staff, as well as the reduced burden on patients during examinations. With the new CT scanner, the Naval Hospital can carry out a significantly higher number and more specialized examinations, which until now were performed at external diagnostic centers, resulting in cost savings for both the public sector and patients of the order of €250,000 over a five-year period.

Subsequently, Honorary Chairman of Angelakos (Hellas) S.A. and Honorary Commodore Evangelos El. Angelakos referred to the importance of “paideia” and the Armed Forces for our country, especially in today’s era of uncertainty, international tensions, and challenges. He stressed that “without national security, there can be no progress and development,” adding that “this donation is an act of recognition, gratitude, honor, and tangible support for those who serve our country every day, so that we can carry out our economic activities without distraction and sleep soundly.”
He further emphasized the enduring bond between the merchant fleet and the Navy, stating that “the relationship between our commercial and naval fleet is deep, historic, and inseparable. From the struggles for independence to modern-day challenges, Greek shipping has remained united—a force that serves
the nation.” Mr. Angelakos also spoke about the importance of contributing to the country.

The importance of contribution was also highlighted by the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Dendias, who, among others, praised the Angelakos family “not only for the CT scanner or the Oxygen Unit, but for the ethos and patriotism their presence has demonstrated in relation to the country’s Armed Forces.”
The Minister noted that, beyond the Angelakos family, many shipping families actively support the Armed Forces and urged other shipowners to do the same. He also underscored the general need of assistance towards the Armed Forces and their restructuring emphasizing that “if we do not change everything, survival will not be possible. This may sound extreme, but it is absolutely true. Look at how conflicts are conducted around the world today and consider how far we were from being able to respond to such possibilities.”

The ribbon-cutting was performed by Mrs. Katigko Angelakou, wife of Mr. Evangelos El. Angelakos and her granddaughter, Katingo Anarg. Skiniti, together with the Minister Mr. Dendias.

For Angelakos (Hellas) S.A. and the Angelakos family, contributing to the “common good” is a duty that is demonstrated in practice.
