The IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) is where the reduction of shipping’s impact on the marine environment is discussed.
Key outcomes from MEPC 84 were: The IMO Net Zero Framework was further considered but without consensus. Further discussions will take place at two Inter-sessional Working Groups on GHG before MEPC 85. Work continued on the GHG Short-Term Measures. Amendments to the BWM Convention and associated guidance were agreed. Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI were adopted for: – A new NE Atlantic ECA – Multiple engine operational profiles, related to NOx Code amendments – The availability of anonymised data from the IMO Fuel Consumption Database.
