Petrochemical plant to remain open
The Grangemouth petrochemical plant is to stay open after a new deal was
struck with workers.
Workers were told in a mass meeting today (25 October) that the decision to
close the site, announced earlier this week, would be reversed.
In a statement, the plant’s operator Ineos said it would reopen its
petrochemicals business and the neighbouring oil refinery with immediate
effect.
The closure move came after workers rejected a deal which would have
changed their pay and pensions. Ministers and the Unite union were involved
in top level talks yesterday to try to save the site and a fresh offer was
made by unions to the company.

Dredging in Nim Wan, Deep Bay
For approximately 4 months, dredging operations will be carried out [in Nim
Wan, Deep Bay] within the area bounded by straight lines joining the
following co-ordinates (WGS84 Datum) from (A) to (I) and the adjacent
shoreline:
(A) 22 deg. 25.438’N / 113 deg. 55.764’E
(B) 22 deg. 25.430’N / 113 deg. 55.671’E
(C) 22 deg. 25.506’N / 113 deg. 55.645’E
(D) 22 deg. 25.560’N / 113 deg. 55.816’E
(E) 22 deg. 25.550’N / 113 deg. 55.951’E
(F) 22 deg. 25.605’N / 113 deg. 56.111’E
(G) 22 deg. 25.672’N / 113 deg. 56.084’E
(H) 22 deg. 25.696’N / 113 deg. 56.183’E
(I) 22 deg. 25.599’N / 113 deg. 56.230’E
The works will be carried out by one grab dredger. Two hopper barges and
one tug will assist in the works. The number of vessels engaged in the
works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.
A working area of approximately 50 metres around the dredger will be
established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be
laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the dredger.
The hours of work will be round-the-clock.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in
international and local regulations.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.
