Walking earlier on this morning in the old 10th century Byzantine and then Genovese Castle of Chios with Anny Zade and friends spotted Chios’ DES Art Gallery where Despoina Stathaki* brings real light to life illuminating also our soul!
Despoina presents mixed media works with acrylic paints using materials borrowed from the decorative arts, such as gold dust, gold leaf, and liquid glass.
In this way, she adds a luminous dimension, making the surface ethereal and creating a three-dimensional effect, leading us to a dreamy-utopian reality of her own, dressed in the colors of the Aegean.
The mythical creatures that often appear in her art work are inspired by Greek mythology and her imagination.
In an era dominated by darkness, the artist borrows the blue of the sea and the Mediterranean light, creating dreamlike, luminous images.
The exhibition runs until the 31st of August 2026 Monday to Saturday 09:00 – 13:00 | 19:00 – 22:00. Ensure you don’t miss it.
Moreover her next solo exhibition will take place in Venice’s Palazzo Albbrizzi between 18/09 – 02/10/2026

*Despoina Stathaki was born and raised in Chios, an Aegean Greek island. Studied art & design at the Vakalo school in Athens Greece.
