Transit through the Bab El Mandeb (BAM)
In support of maritime security operations, combined task force 150 (CTF
150) will provide surface vessel escort and/or convoy operations for
merchant vessels transiting the BAM 04-10 November 2013.
The operation will exercise CTF 150’s capability and reaction time to a
maritime threat while safeguarding merchant traffic in the area.
Although this operation is strictly voluntary, CMF seeks to maximize
participation and aims to enhance coordination with vessel masters in
conjunction with other maritime organizations including UKMTO and MARLO.
Participating vessel operators may use VHF communications, initially
Channel 16 and report while entering and departing the bam.
For additional information contact Lt Cdr Muhammad Aslam, CTF 150 N5 at
