Titan, BSEE, CLIA, Toledo Academy and Joe Cox to be honored
October 1, 2014- The Board of Directors of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), announced the recipients of NAMEPA’s 2014 Marine Environment Protection Awards. The awards will be presented at NAMEPA’s Awards Dinner to be held in New York in conjunction with their New York Conference on October 29th.
Titan Salvage is the winner of the Corporate Award. When notified, Senior VP Todd Busch stated “We at Titan are very proud to be honored with this award. It supports for one of our core values and key initiatives”. The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is the recipient of the Association Award, with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) winning the Federal Agency Award. Joe Cox will receive the award for an Individual, following on the heels of BIMCO’s Torben Skaanild and George P. Livanos.
The Education Award is being given to Rene Marazon, President of The Maritime Academy of Toledo. When notified, Rene commented “This award is such an encouragement and boost for all of the K-12 maritime schools. I am humbled and of course anxious to shout out our story and our vision for industry collaborations across the country. Honestly, I am accepting this prestigious award on behalf of all of the K-12 maritime schools across the U.S.”
The NAMEPA Marine Environment Protection Award is given in recognition of an individual or organization’s efforts on behalf of preserving the marine environment as exemplified by the following:
Eligibility
- Maritime Industry (to include, ship owners, operators, shipyard, etc)
- Federal, State or Local Environmental agency
- Non-Profit organization
- University, college, academy, or high school
- Individual
Criteria
- The recipient has specific objectives set for environmental performance and improvement.
- The program is innovative and goes beyond minimum compliance.
- The impact of the program efforts are long term and substantial.
Need to ensure
- Alignment with NAMEPA goals
- Education Benefit
- Environmental Benefit
- Measureable successes (objectives/targets) in improving protection of the marine environment
Submissions are reviewed by a committee consisting of NAMEPA Board members.
