Programme Manager, Transport & Environment Bill Hemmings has lead the international aviation and shipping team at Transport & Environment since 2008. Previously he was a Director, Advisory Services Europe at American Express and eCLIPSE Advisors after careers in Swire (Cathay Pacific Airways) and the Australian Foreign Service. He works closely with the Clean Shipping Coalition at the  IMO MEPC promoting greater ship efficiency and environmental measures.

31 EngineThe Wärtsilä 31 engine has achieved a Guinness World Records title for the most efficient 4-stroke diesel engine. It is designed to serve various types of vessels in the Offshore, Cruise & Ferry, and other marine segments where the power range requirement is from 4.2 to 9.8 MW.  The engine can be operated using a range of different fuels, and comes in three alternative versions; Diesel, Dual-Fuel and Spark-Ignited Gas (SG).

With Maersk Line’s bold new target to reduce CO2 60% by 2020 (effectively decoupling emissions from business growth) and new innovative sustainability products such as customer carbon pacts, Signe is leading Maersk Line’s efforts to lift industry standards while enabling global trade and economic development in the most sustainable manner possible. As a Trustee and Board Member of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative, Signe is also working across industry divides to uncover collaborative opportunities for a more sustainable future for the maritime industry.
Carbon War Room
Carbon War Room is a global non-profit organisation which accelerates the adoption of business solutions that reduce carbon emissions at gigaton scale and advance the low- carbon economy. Carbon War Room has Operations in Shipping Efficiency, Trucking Efficiency and Smart Island Economies.Carbon War Room launched Ship Efficiency in 2010. Since then it has worked with RightShip to develop the A to G GHG Emissions Rating and make it publicly available at ShippingEfficiency.org. The A to G Rating is now used by charterers to shift a fifth of the world’s shipped tonnage to more efficient ships annually, and by other shipping stakeholders including ports and banks.
