Our fortieth weekly recapitulation of the shipping markets, their respective main indices and world geopolitics affecting same in 2015 and beyond, tonight Friday the 2nd of October 2015, with John Faraclas of AllAboutShipping in London.

  • The BDI, the Baltic Dry Index, closed up just a point since yesterday Thursday the 1st  of October at 889 points which is 54 points down since last week’s 943 points!  Far below the Dec 2013 closing of 2, 274 points – this serves as a remind to all who hop over 20 months of a total market improvement. Our predictions are verbatim more than accurate!
  • The BCI up 20 at 1, 931 points which is 93 points down since last week’s 2, 024 points
  • The BPI was three points down at  701 which is 43 points down since last week’s 744 points…
  •  The BSI was four  points down  since yesterday at 691 which is also 42 points down since last weeks 733 points…and,
  • The BHSI was also down four points standing at 392, which is 16 points down since last weeks 408 points
  • The wets now: the Dirties and its BDTI index were ten points up at  725 which is 15 points higher than last week’s 705 points.-
  • The Cleans and its respective BCTI was down five points at 506 which is 28 points down since last week’s 534 points.
  • The price of oil continues to stand in the region US$ 45, but not promising as begins to drop..

The Geopolitics front continues far worse and blur since last week. Hold your breath.

  • The Migrants –remains the top news, a drama/issue which needs very meticulous planning, needless to say organisation as it will create both in the sort and long run tremendous problems with incalculable repercussions for all. A big shame to all politicians from both sides of the Atlantic for the way they try to “handle” this Yellowstone… Simply shame to them once again! We provoke a live discussion on any major TV station. Whatever we have written on this issue remains valid!  Turkey continues to plays games… and terrorists continue to enter Europe…!  shame! The Syrian affair has changed and Putin’s Russia gets in the melee to protect its vested interest too in the region…
  • The new Greek administration has a colossal job to do, but needs the will to proceed and deliver even an iota; am afraid it totally lacks of this charisma. The newly elected MP’s have sworn in and tomorrow Saturday the election for the Speaker of the House will be very interesting. We wait to see the SYRIZA’s speedy Catharsis. Hope ANEL, the coalition partners comes to its senses too!  In a nutshell we are still in the beginning and be on guard. If investments and development have to be done, these cannot be done with a volatile and unstable political uncertainty.-
  • In Germany we will wait to see what Mrs. Merkel has to say about the VW scandal; it will be very interesting!
  • In Ukraine, things are still far from returning to the norm, and Putin’s intervention in Syria is a reply for what one can expect for the Ukrainian saga….
  • China is on a downturn; caution!
  • The Islamic State will be curbed but at a colossal financial and human cost! We must all contribute to this, as otherwise the entire Middle East will be simple ashes! Having said this, Europe will be in a mess too…
  • Portugal votes on Sunday for a new Government; I feel the current government will be first in the votes….
  • Lloyd’s List’s Global Awards for 2015 yestreday at the National Maritime Museum was yet again a memorable event on all counts! Winners and runners up had their day! Safety of Human life at sea too!
  • Danish Maritime Technology Conference during Danish Maritime Days in Copenhagen 7-10 October as previously advised is coming up!
  • As does Capital Link’s City of London event on the 7th of October with this great theme and an excellent line of speakers on Shipping, Marine Services and Offshore will be the forum of forums! Do please check our UPCOMING Events!
  • Finally, we continue to invite the world visiting Greece and its Islands; that will counter as a plus to the troubles Greece and its people are going through. Greece is for all seasons!  We also continue to repeat the fact that the Turkish Government by allowing the traffickers to move the migrants to  the Greek Islands not only spoils Greece’s tourism but will eventually create the worst explosion in the East Med…Try Kithnos and Milos in the Cyclades with more than excellent sea-food!  Otherwise, do try Oslo and the Norwegian fiords!  There will be plentiful to see soon in a month’s time at the World Travel Market in London’s Excel!
