Busan International Conference; view from last year’s event
Date October 2015, Busan, South Korea – 3rd Busan International Port Conference(BIPC 2015), hosted by the Busan Port Authority, Korea, is going to be held at the newly opened Busan Port International Passenger Terminal from November 5-6.
The event first began in 2013 for celebrating ten years since its foundation of BPA. Up to
500 port leaders and figures in the global port and shipping industry are expected to
attend the BIPC 2015 including twenty-five plenary speakers from both Korea and
overseas for exchanging and sharing their full of expertise over the two days.
Under the theme of ‘Ports Exploring the Unexplored’, the conference will be split into
three working sessions and one special session covering Mega Issue: Future of Port &
Shipping, Port & Shipping dealing with Green Regulations, Establishment of New Logistics
Network: Panama Canal Expansion and Cooperation on Port & Logistics Business with
Overseas Developing Ports.
An opening session by the Hamburg Port Authority, HPNT (Hyundai Pusan New-Port
Terminal), Samsung Heavy Industries, Global Logistics Institute and Drewry will discuss
Mega Ships and Alliances representing the recent trend of the maritime industry, while
the second session by the IMO, MPA (Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore), Lloyd’s
Register, DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co.) and Hapag-Lloyd will
look at the environmental issues especially on LNG-fuelled container vessels and LNG
bunkering.
As the expansion of the Panama Canal comes closer, the third session will focus on the
future impact of global shipping and logistics industry especially between Asian-American
trade routes in a view of the Port Authority, Academia and the Panama Canal Authority.
On the second day of the conference, at the Special Session, Professionals of
international cooperation on Port and Logistics will discuss a way for Korean government
and Port Authority to establish cooperative partnership with ports in developing
countries and assist domestic corporations in advancing into port development business
in overseas.
President of the BPA, Mr. Woo Ye-jong said “I hope that, through the Busan International
Port Conference 2015, we could identify main issues in the shipping and maritime
industry to suggest possible solutions to the problems encountered by the global port
community.”
All sessions of the Busan International Port Conference 2015 are to offer both Korean and
