Another milestone for Laskaridis Shipping Co Ltd!

The reefer “Skyfrost”

Laskaridis Shipping Co. Ltd. is pleased to announce that its Ice-Classed reefer vessel M/V Skyfrost (470, 604cbft, Vessel Class Bureau Veritas) has exited the Northern Sea Route Passage (NSR) on the 9th of September 2012 en route to St. Petersburg with a cargo of frozen fish loaded in Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka.

The NSR transit was successfully completed by the Skyfrost in 7 days 12 hours and thirty minutes (2, 189 NM) and the vessel was escorted by the nuclear icebreaker Yamal due to the presence of ice in the eastern regions of the NSR bringing the total voyage time at approximately 21 days. (6, 630 NM). The alternative route through the Panama Canal is approximately 12, 300 NM or 40 days.

Laskaridis Shipping has been the largest operator of Ice-Classed reefer vessels with vast and growing experience in operating its fleet in remote polar conditions. This is the second Northern Sea Route crossing following the voyage of M/V Rainfrost in September 2011 and in an environmentally sensitive world, Laskaridis Shipping Co. Ltd. is pleased that once again its vessel has significantly reduced her carbon footprint through the use of the NSR.
