Hamburg, Germany,   September 2012 – Santierul Naval Constanta SA (SNC) will build two new 50, 000 dwt product tankers to be classed by Germanischer Lloyd (GL). The letter of intent was signed during the SMM trade show in Hamburg. The two Chemical Tankers Type 2 / Oil Tankers will be built according to the Common Structural Rules and SNC’s latest fuel efficient “Dream 50” design. Steel-cutting is scheduled for early 2013.

The new “Dream 50” design by SNC has been optimized for shallow draft, without compromising the mild steel content and scantlings. The hull forms were optimized in order to achieve maximum cargo intake while avoiding an unnecessary depth increase, resulting in a tank capacity of more than 56, 000 m3. The hull forms of the “Dream 50” design have been assessed by the Hamburg Ship Model Basin GmbH (HSVA), where basin tests and manoeuvrability tests were carried out to verify compliance with IMO resolutions. The use of MAN’s ultra-long-stroke main engine MAN 6G50ME-B9.2 at reduced revolutions per minute and of the Kappel high efficiency propeller is also expected to generate further improvements in fuel economy.

Jointly, Santierul Naval Constanta SA and GL have successfully completed more than 20 tanker projects.
