Due to a deficit in the national Pilots’ Pension Fund, there will be an extra increase in pilotage charges at most UK ports in 2013.
The percentage rise in additon to the expected increase in tariffs will vary from port to port, depending on how busy they are. The average rise is expected to be approximately 10%.

A strike by clerical staff brought terminals at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to a halt yesterday (28 November) after other workers refused to cross picket lines.
According to local reports, seven of the eight terminals at the Port of Los Angeles were shut down by the action, along with three of the six terminals at Long Beach.
Longshore clerks at the ports are in a dispute with terminal operators over staffing issues.
The strike is the largest shutdown at the combined ports since 2002.

According to local reports, the two-week strike by supervisors at Illawarra Coal’s Appin Mine (a subsidiary of BHPB) will end tomorrow Friday (30 November).
