Safety zones for fireworks shows

Sugar House Casino will be holding a fireworks show on July 5, 2013 in the
Delaware River in Philadelphia, PA. A safety zone will be established
within a 350 yard radius of the fireworks launch platform in approximate
position latitude 39-57.7752 N, longitude 075-07.7575 W from 8:30 pm until
10:00 pm.

Mariners desiring to transit the area may do so only with the permission of
the onscene Coast Guard vessel that can be reached via vhf radio on channel
16.

WAWA Welcome America will be holding its annual fireworks show on july 6,
2013 in the Delaware River in Philadelphia, PA. A safety zone will be
established adjacent to Penn’s Landing, Philadelphia, PA, bounded from
shoreline to shoreline, bounded on the south by a line running east to west
from points along the shoreline at latitude 39-56.52 N, longitude
075-08.4683 W; thence to latitude 39-56.485 N, longitude 075-07.9416 W, and
bounded on the north by the Benjamin Franklin bridge from 9:15 pm until
10:30 pm.

Mariners desiring to transit the area may do so only with the permission of
the onscene Coast Guard vessel that can be reached via vhf radio on channel
16.

Mariners are advised to plan their transits accordingly and navigate with
caution in the surrounding area.

McDermott derrick barge #50 [is] engaged in construction activities at the
i. HIBISCUS PLATFORM Lat 11 – 07.85 North; Long 061 – 39.56 West
and the
ii. POINSETTIA PLATFORM Lat 11 – 13.89 North; Long 061 – 31.38 West
during the period 1st to 8th July, 2013.

A wide berth and caution is advised.

National stevedores’ strike

Brazil stevedores’ union has announced a national strike on 10 July. An
estimated 25, 000 stevedores who work at state ports are expected to take
part.

The strike is in protest at the new regulatory mark, which the union
considers a step backwards.

Additional public holidays for papal visit

Additional public holidays for papal visit
Rio de Janeiro will have three extra public holidays (two half-days and two
full-days) to coincide with the visit of Pope Francis to the country from
22 to 29 July, to mark the 28th World Youth Day.

23 July will be a partial public holiday, starting at 4pm to give pilgrims
the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony on Copacabana beach. The
other half-day will be until midday on 29 July, the day after the final day
of World Youth Day. 25 & 26 July will be full-days holidays.

During the holidays, GAC Brazil’s office will work with a skeleton staff
and all messages will be regularly checked until normal office activities
resume at noon on 29 July.
