Increasing energy demand and a dwindling number of easily accessible fields are the drivers for activity at the margins of what is technically possible. This poses an increasing number of challenges for offshore engineering.
Deep water extraction is a subject of growing interest to the offshore and energy industries, due to the unique set of technical problems which it presents. With its theme ‘Latest Deepwater and Offshore Challenges’ the 1st IMarEST Offshore Oil & Gas Engineering Conference, being held in Houston, Texas on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 August, and organised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) will explore all the latest challenges in offshore engineering.
Chaired by Dr Paul Jukes, Group Managing Director, MCS Kenny and Chairman IMarEST Offshore Oil & Gas Special Interest Group (SIG), the two day conference features keynote addresses by Jennifer Bell, Incoming Chairman, ASME, Petroleum Division on ‘Challenges and issues for the future’; John Vicic, Director Deepwater Facilities Technology BP on ‘Challenges of subsea technology’; Gary E Harrison, DW GoM Pipeline Technical Authority, BP and Immediate Past Chairman, ASME Petroleum Division on ‘Flowline and pipeline challenges in deep water’; and Peter Noble, Principal Advisor, Noble Associates LLC and President, SNAME on ‘Floating systems’
Speakers from across the industry will be addressing subsea technologies, pipelines and flowlines technologies, riser technologies, discuss how today’s latest developments will meet the challenges of tomorrow, floating systems, integrity management, flow assurance and CFD, and regulation and compliance; and the conference ends with a panel discussion on ‘Regulation and compliance – the technical interface’.
