Increasing energy demand and a dwindling number of easily accessible fields are the drivers for activity at the margins of what is technically possible. This poses an increasing number of challenges for offshore engineering.
Deep water extraction is a subject of growing interest to the offshore and energy industries, due to the unique set of technical problems which it presents. With its theme ‘Latest Deepwater and Offshore Challenges’ the 1st IMarEST Offshore Oil & Gas Engineering Conference, being held in Houston, Texas on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 August, and organised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) will explore all the latest challenges in offshore engineering.
Chaired by Dr Paul Jukes, Group Managing Director, MCS Kenny and Chairman IMarEST Offshore Oil & Gas Special Interest Group (SIG), the two day conference features keynote addresses by Jennifer Bell, Incoming Chairman, ASME, Petroleum Division on ‘Challenges and issues for the future’; John Vicic, Director Deepwater Facilities Technology BP on ‘Challenges of subsea technology’; Gary E Harrison, DW GoM Pipeline Technical Authority, BP and Immediate Past Chairman, ASME Petroleum Division on ‘Flowline and pipeline challenges in deep water’; and Peter Noble, Principal Advisor, Noble Associates LLC and President, SNAME on ‘Floating systems’
Speakers from across the industry will be addressing subsea technologies, pipelines and flowlines technologies, riser technologies, discuss how today’s latest developments will meet the challenges of tomorrow, floating systems, integrity management, flow assurance and CFD, and regulation and compliance; and the conference ends with a panel discussion on ‘Regulation and compliance – the technical interface’. The full programme is online at www.imarest.org/offshore
“We have a packed and highly stimulating two days ahead of us, ” says Dr Paul Jukes. “We have a programme designed to provide helpful information and act as a forum for discussion for anybody who is interested or working in the global subsea and floating production industry.
“Having been a member of IMarEST since early in my career, and a past Chairman of the IMarEST Young Members’ Network, I am delighted that we have programmed a Young Members’ Breakfast Meeting on 22 August, as well as information on ‘The route to Chartered Engineer status’ just before the first evening’s Conference Reception. We need to enthuse young engineers, and help them see a clear career pathway in this exciting and vital industry.”
The 1st IMarEST Offshore Oil & Gas Engineering Conference is eligible for CPD, and full registration details are available on the IMarEST website at www.imarest.org/offshore, with an early bird price in place until Friday 19 July that will save delegates $150 off their registration fees.
About the Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST)
The IMarEST is an international membership body and learned society for all marine professionals. The IMarEST (a registered charity) is the first Institute to bring together marine engineers, scientists and technologists into one international multi-disciplinary professional body. It is the largest marine organisation of its kind with a worldwide membership of around 15, 000 based in over 100 countries.
Working with the global marine community, the IMarEST promotes the scientific development of marine engineering, science and technology, providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas and practices and upholding the status, standards and expertise of marine professionals worldwide.
The IMarEST has a growing network of Corporate Marine Partners who benefit from a tailored programme to support each global organisation’s specific requirements. Packages provide companies with a competitive edge by investing in staff and supporting Initial and Continuous Professional Development, supporting local, national, or international promotional programmes, providing specialised recruitment solutions, accrediting training courses, creating bespoke networking events and providing company employees with access to one of the largest online knowledge resources – the IMarEST Virtual Library.
The IMarEST is a respected authority in every maritime country. It is a Non-Governmental Organisation with consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), observer status at the International Oceanographic Commission, and it has special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), which facilitates its access to other international intergovernmental meetings where its specialized marine expertise is of particular use, e.g., the United Nations meetings on Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) and the work of the International Seabed Authority on marine mining. It is a nominated and licensed body of the Engineering Council (UK), a member of the Science Council and has significant links with many other maritime organisations worldwide.
IMarEST runs a series of industry leading and technically excellent events and conferences as well as publishing internationally recognised publications: Marine Engineers Review (MER); Shipping World and Shipbuilder; Maritime IT and Electronics; Marine Scientist; and Offshore Technology. www.imarest.org
