Pre-Shipment Inspection
Angola’s Presidential Decree No. 63/13 has introduced changes to the
country’s Pre-Shipment Inspection Regulations.
According to the new Presidential Decree, pre-shipment inspections are no
longer mandatory as of 12 June 2013, but importers and exporters may, if
they so wish, continue to hire pre-shipment inspection services from
private inspection agencies.
Customs authorities will carry out inspections of imported (as well as
domestic) goods that are potentially hazardous to public health.

Delaware Bay Swim
A swimmer will depart Port Mahon at 0700 [on Saturday 3 August] on a swim
across Delaware Bay to Fortescue Creek to raise funds for the oyster
schooner A.J. Meerwald and the Bayshore Discovery Project.
The swimmer will be accompanied by numerous escort boats and will approach
the channel on lower Liston Range between 1000 and 1100.
The escort boats will be monitoring channel 13 and can be raised on the
radio by calling SWIM Delaware.

Towage charge surcharge cancelled
Due to a steady increase in the number of vessels calling to the port of
Abbot Point, the 24% Volume Based Surcharge (VBS) on towage charges that
was introduced in September 2012 has been reduced to 0% effective from 1
August.

Vessel grounded off Dardanelles entrance
A 175.96 metre vessel has been grounded north of Bozcaada Island, 10 miles
off Dardanelles Strait southern entry.
Traffic in the Strait has not been affected and coastal safety has employed
tugs for the rescue operation.
No damage or pollution has been reported.

Ramazan Bayrami five-day holiday
There will be a five-day holiday in Turkey from noon on Wedensday 7 August
until Sunday 11 August, to mark the Ramazan Bayrami Holiday.
All official institutions and banks will be closed from the afternoon of 7
August to 11 August.
Arrangements for crew, spares, provisions, etc. should be made in good time
to enable them to be acted upon in good time.
Meanwhilee, some ports may be close on these dates and charges for official
services (pilotage, towage, mooring, customs, etc.) be increased by 50%. It
is therefore advisable to check with GAC Turkey prior calling at any
Turkish Port.
GAC Turkey will be on duty during the holiday.

A port administration strike started at Vila do Conde Port at 0600 hours
local time today (31 July).
All port operations beyond Docks Co. control have been stopped, and the
port is inaccessible.
There is currently no indication of when the strike is likely to finish.
