Pipelaying operations in the Christina River
Weeks Marine will be laying submerged pipeline across the entrance to the
Christina River on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in preparation for
dredging operations that will take place through March 31, 2014.
Submerged pipeline will be placed from the southern edge of the Christina
River entrance channel to the northern edge where pipeline will proceed
west into the Christina River. Operations will take place between 9:00
a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
During this time, vessels will be restricted in their ability to transmit
through the Christina River entrance channel.
Vessels may request permission to transit by calling the Dredge ESSEX at
least 30 minutes prior to transiting to coordinate passing information.
Passing will be coordinated on a case-by-case basis. Vessels will not be
able to pass for a limited period during the actual pipe-laying.
The Dredge ESSEX, the Tug HERCULES, or the Tug CANDICE can be contacted on
VHF channels 13 or 16 or by phone at 985-237-5041 or 985-705-9672.
Mariners are urged to use extreme caution and operate at minimum steerage
speed to reduce wake when transiting the area.
