Port2Port Maritime Security Ltd. has been awarded full certification / accreditation for ISO 28000: ISO/PAS 28007. Following a rigorous validation process, Port2Port is independently certified through MSS Global via the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS), with full compliance to the new security management system specification.
Andrew Varney, Managing Director of Port2Port Maritime said,
‘Port2Port has worked extremely hard to implement the ISO in full; this award is vindication of our efforts. It is our responsibility now to articulate this to the Shipping industry, which should be in no doubt of our commitment to a high quality risk management service. Other PMSC’s have also received accreditation adding credibility and relevance to this significant milestone in self-regulation. By normalising ISO28007 as the industry standard sets a transparent, internationally recognised and independent benchmark against which Ship owners and Charterers alike can now easily identify and engage properly accredited PMSCs to manage their risk from Piracy and Maritime crime and in doing so, I hope we have also taken positive steps to reverse the much feared “race to the bottom” by reintroducing a standards narrative back into our industry.
The ISO Publically Available Specification (PAS) 28007, as part of the ISO 28000 Security Management System family, establishes the internationally recognised guidelines for Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSCs) providing Private Contracted Armed Security Personnel (PCASP) on board ships.ISO/PAS 28007 is the only published standard dealing with armed guards on ships and contains essential information for PMSCs and for the shipping companies selecting a PMSC. It also outlines sector-specific requirements for applying ISO 28000:2007, Specification for security management systems for the supply chain. Compliance with ISO/PAS 28007 is therefore acknowledged within certification to ISO 28000.
The document addresses security management system elements such as: resilience, planning, resources, training and awareness, communication and documentation. It also outlines operational requirements for dealing with issues such as: scene and casualty management, incident reporting and investigation, health and safety and customer complaints. ISO/PAS 28007 also includes recommendations for performance evaluation such as monitoring, audits, management and continual improvement. Implementation will enable security companies to demonstrably evidence their competence in the provision of PCASP for anti-piracy operationson board ships.
Port2Port Maritime is also leading the development of an extension to the ISO for the Gulf of Guinea and wider West Africa region, where currently it has no jurisdiction or effect. Andrew Varney continued,
“Having recently established Port2Port West Africa as a fully incorporated Nigerian Company and licensed security provider, I am very keen to support an extension of the same security management system for which we have just been accredited. As the leading private maritime security provider in the Gulf of Guinea, Port2Port West Africa provides the same uncompromising high quality services as we do for our clients using Port2Port Maritime in the East Africa and Indian Ocean High risk Area (HRA). As one of only a select number of legitimate, legally compliant and regulated operators in the sector, we very much welcome the same scrutiny of our processes and service delivery throughout the Gulf of Guinea.”
