Canal lock chamber to be taken out of service
The Kiel Canal Authorities have announced that the New Big North Lock
Chamber at Kiel-Holtenau will be taken out of service for repairs from 17
March until about 28 March.
The New Big South Lock Chamber the the North Lock Chamber of the old locks
will remain in service.

Automatic Identification System requirements
Soyo Maritime Authority has issued a reminder that the Automatic
Identification System (AIS) requirements must be adhered to.
SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19 Section 2.4 states: “All ships of 300 gross
tonnage and upwards engaged on international voyages and cargo ships of 500
gross tonnage and upwards not engaged on international voyages and
passenger ships irrespective of size shall be fitted with an Automatic
Identification System (AIS).”
Vessels that fail to observe these requirements may be subject to action by
the office of the Port Captain.

Repairs at ExxonMobil Lubes Terminal
From 22 to 24 March, repairs will be carried out at the ExxonMobil
Terminal, Jurong Island.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Marine
Notice No. 31 of 2014, the works will be conducted 24 hours daily –
including Sundays & Public Holidays – within the working area bounded by
the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum):
A) 01° 17.967’N / 103° 41.333’E
B) 01° 17.959’N / 103° 41.333’E
C) 01° 17.959’N / 103° 41.354’E
D) 01° 17.967’N / 103° 41.354’E
Repair of the jetty will entail replacement of existing fenders. A crane
barge will be deployed for the transportation of construction materials.
Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and
international day and
night signals.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
a) keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
b) maintain a proper lookout;
c) proceed at a safe speed & navigate with caution;
d) maintain a listening watch on appropriate VHF Channel 22;
and
e) Communicate with Jurong control on VHF Channel 22 for assistance, if
required.
