Incident approaching the Strait of Hormuz

Mariners are advised that on or about 1403 UTC 30Mar2014 the Master of the
motor tanker Album reported being approached by a skiff in position: Lat
26-24.4N, Long 056-41.8E.

Six personnel onboard where sighted carrying machine guns while the skiff
closed range from five NM at approximately 20 kts. The skiff fired toward
the bridge.

Procedures IAW BMP4 were conducted. The Master raised the ship’s general
alarm, the crew mustered, fire pumps were activated, and the vessel altered
course.

After hearing the alarm, the skiff turn away from the ship’s stern and
traveled eastward. The ship and crew are safe.

It is recommended vessels within the vicinity of this alert operate with a
heightened level of security and report any suspicious activity to MSCHOA,
UKMTO or MARLO.

Tourism dirham fee starts today

The Tourism dirham, a new fee by the Dubai Department of Tourism and
Commerce Marketing (DTCM) takes effect today (31 March 2014).

The fee is imposed on guests staying at hotel and hotel apartments per room
per night. Hotels will collect the fee and pass it on to DTCM.

A fee of Dh20 is charged by five-star hotels, Dh15 by four-star hotels,
Dh10 by two- and three-star hotels and Dh7 by one-star or budget hotels,
according to DTCM.

is 13.1 mtrs. at Chart Datum.

b) Minimum depth in the South basin approach channel and turning circle is
14.4 mtrs. at Chart Datum.

c) Minimum depth in the West Basin approach channel 14.2 mtrs.at Chart

Construction of additional jetty at power station

From 7 April to 6 October, an additional jetty will be constructed at Pulau
Seraya Power Station, Jurong Island.

According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Marine
Notice No.43 of 2014 dated 28 March 2014, the works will be conducted 24
hours daily – including Sundays & Public Holidays – at Pulau Seraya
terminal within the working area bounded by the
following co-ordinatess (WGS 84 Datum):
1. 1⁰ 17.180’N / 103⁰ 43.650’E
2. 1⁰ 17.258’N / 103⁰ 43.726’E
3. 1⁰ 17.016’N / 103⁰ 43.974’E
4. 1⁰ 16.938’N / 103⁰ 43.899’E

Construction of the new jetty will entail concrete works, pilings and
installation of walkways.

A safety boat will be in attendance throughout the duration of the
construction works to warn other craft of the works in the vicinity.

Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and
international day and night signals.

When in the vicinity of the working areas, mariners are reminded to:
(a) keep well clear and not to enter the working areas;
(b) maintain a proper lookout;
(c) proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;
(d) maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 25;
and
(e) communicate with West Pasir Panjang Control on VHF Channel 25 for
assistance, if required.
