Flights to airport reduced for runway works
Works starts today (1 May) on a runway refurbishment project at Dubai
International Airport, to boost its safety, service and capacity levels.
The work will last 80 days during which the runways will be closed
alternately: the southern runway from 1 to 31 May, and the northern runway
from 31 May to 20 July.
During this period the number of flights to Dubai International Airport
will be reduced. Some will be diverted to Al Maktoum International at Dubai
World Central (DWC) and some to Sharjah International Airport. Emirates
Airline will continue to operate from Dubai International Airport, however
on routes where Emirates Airline has had to reduce frequency, it has
upgraded to larger aircraft where possible to recover part of the capacity.
During the runway refurbishment, Dubai Airports will provide a luxury
courtesy shuttle every 30 minutes for passengers connecting between the two
airports.
