intertanko_logoTo demonstrate Members’ commitment to INTERTANKO’s Tanker Industry Voluntary Code of Conduct and their commitment to best practice in general, the vast majority of Council Members endorsed the Code of Conduct during their recent meeting in New York by publicly signing it on a large banner.

INTERTANKO has drawn up this Code of Conduct in order to assist in promoting a collective responsibility to act at all times with the highest standards of honesty, integrity and respect towards one another, to encourage compliance with general standards of good corporate citizenship.

INTERTANKO will now seek further engagement with Members and Associate Members as well as other stakeholders.

INTERTANKO remains determined to identify ways to make tanker shipping more sustainable and viable in the long term. While continuing to be involved with the environmental and social aspects of sustainability, the strategic focus of Members is on those commercial aspects which remain constant whether the market is low or high, such as specifically driving down the cost of vetting, rebalancing eroded charter party terms, and monitoring charterers’ payment performance for freight, demurrage and other claims.

The ultimate aim of INTERTANKO’s Sustainability Project is to help bring about changes in behaviour which make the tanker business function better for all involved.

You can view a video of the signing ceremony, which includes comments from INTERTANKO Chairman Graham Westgarth, INTERTANKO Executive Committee member Hans Feringa of Stolt Tankers and INTERTANKO Council member Tim Horne of Teekay, here.
