Leading international maritime security company Ambrey Risk took part in this year’s Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the well known maritime charity: the Sailor’s Society. Ambrey’s Deputy Managing Director, James Gasson-Hargreaves, joined a team of three, which took on the challenge of climbing the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours. The team completed the course in the fastest time of 6 hours and 25 minutes and nineteen seconds and were awarded with the Overall Winners Prize.
James said: “I am absolutely delighted to have completed the challenge and although we set out to finish in a fast time it came as a bit of a surprise when we crossed the line first. It was exhausting but it was all for a worthy cause. At Ambrey Risk we are committed to the safety of seafarers at sea and so it was particularly rewarding that we could give a little towards Sailor’s Society, who do a fantastic job every day in providing much needed support to seafarers and their families around the world.”
The team raised a total of over £18000 and the contributions continue to flow in.
James described the experience as an exercise in pain management, “My Team Captain wasn’t kidding when he said he wanted to win and we set off up Ben Nevis like startled hares. 3 hours later we were on the bus before racing up and down Hellvellyn in the middle of a pitch-black night for an hour and a half. Daybreak saw us take on Snowden with a gritty determination to win the record of first place for all three peaks to seize the overall winners’ trophy. Mission accomplished, we enjoyed a few cups of tea and a dip in the lake before heading to Liverpool for the prize giving.”
Over it’s history the Sailor’s Society Three Peaks Challenge has made over half a million dollars for the charity.
