GAC 01072014Fogs disrupting Gulf port operations
February 09, 2015, United States, Beaumont, Texas

Fog has caused some disruption at Gulf ports today (9 February).

The channel at Beaumont was clsoed due to fog at 0345 hours local time, whilst Houston Pilots suspended all vessel boardings at 0610 hours.

The Port of Freeport was closed due to fog at 0500 hours, but reopened at 0945.

Heavy rains and flooding

Heavy rains and flooding since Friday are affecting communications and other operations throughout the city of Jakarta.

GAC Indonesia is still working, despite the disruption to communications. Principals experiencing difficulty in getting thorugh on the phone lines are asked to keep trying.

Marine Site Investigation off Sha Chau

For approximately 9 weeks, marine site investigation works involving drilling of boreholes will be carried out [off Shau Chau) at the following works locations (WGS 84 Datum):

(A) 22 deg. 20.952’N / 113 deg. 53.420’E

(B) 22 deg. 20.665’N / 113 deg. 53.311’E

(C) 22 deg. 20.415’N / 113 deg. 53.427’E

The works will be carried out by three jack-up platforms. Some tugs and work boats will provide assistance. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.

A working area of approximately 20 metres will be established around each jack-up platform. Yellow flashing lights will be installed at the four corners of the platform to indicate its position.

The hours of works will be from 0700 to 1900 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays. During the period outside the hours of works, vessels employed for the works will stay at the works locations.

Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

Yacht Races between Hong Kong and Macau

Yacht races between Hong Kong and Macau will take place on 19 February 2015 (Thursday) and 21 February 2015 (Saturday). About 20 sailing boats are expected to participate in the races.

The outbound trip from Hong Kong to Macau will start at 1000 hours on 19 February 2015 in an area south-east of Lamma Island (in the vicinity of Yuen Kok Light). Depending on the weather condition, it will follow:

(a) Course 1 – a westerly route through south of Lamma Island, south of Tai A Chau, thence to Macau if the wind is coming from the north;

OR

(b) Course 2 – a south-westerly route through the southern Boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, thence to Macau if the wind is coming from the south.

The return trip from Macau to Hong Kong will start at 1000 hours on 21 February 2015 and will follow:

(a) Course 1 – a route through south of Tai A Chau and to complete the race at a position east of Cheung Chau if the wind is coming from the north;

OR

(b) Course 2 – a route through south of Shek Kwu Chau and to complete the race at a position east of Cheung Chau if the wind is coming from the south.

Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity of the race routes should proceed with caution, giving practical consideration to the contestants. Compliance with the provisions of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 is mandatory.
