Court fees: reforms update – implementation date confirmed: 9 March 2015
On 19 February 2015 we reported, in our Court fees: reforms update bulletin, the Government’s controversial plans to introduce enhanced court fees, possibly to take effect in March 2015.
Yesterday, Parliament approved the implementation of the new fees and confirmed that these are to be introduced as from Monday 9 March 2015, pursuant to The Civil Proceedings and Family Proceedings (Amendment) Order 2015.
As such, a claimant choosing to issue a new claim might be well advised to do so sooner rather than later and before 9 March 2015, when the new tariffs will apply.
This development is notwithstanding the opposition to the reforms and the Law Society’s call for a judicial review of the court fee increases.
