by admin

The Nautical Institute table at the 2015 Seatrade AwardsThe Navigator magazine – the free publication for navigating officers produced by The Nautical Institute – was announced the winner of the ‘Investment in People’ Award at the 27th Seatrade Awards ceremony at Guildhall, London, last night.

The magazine, which was founded in 2012 to support, inform and encourage navigators of all ages, cultures and ranks, beat strong competition in the prestigious category, which was sponsored by DNV-GL. The Navigator is published three times a year with a print run of 100, 000 copies and is distributed to SOLAS vessels around the world by volunteers who visit ships, including surveyors, agents, pilots, and by missions, training centres and ship operators. These distributors are professionals who invest their time and effort to advance the professional development of others.

Accepting the award, David Patraiko, Director of Projects at The Nautical Institute, said: “Navigational safety is reliant on the competency of the world’s navigators. At The Nautical Institute, we are adamant that this competency is dependent on the motivation and professionalism of these navigators, in addition to their levels of technical training. We are honoured and delighted to win this important award, as it recognises our efforts to invest in, and support navigators across the globe, and to inspire them to higher levels of professionalism.”

The ninth issue of The Navigator will be available in June and digital versions of all past and current issues are available online at http://www.nautinst.org/thenavigator
