The Port of this Month is Port of Tallinn. At the 17th ESPO general assembly on 4 November 2014, Ellen Kaasik, the Head of Quality and Environmental Management Department of Port of Tallinn, was elected Chairman of ESPO’s Sustainable Development Committee for the period 2014-2016. In April this year, Ellen Kaasik enthusiastically chaired the Sustainable Development Committee for the first time. We therefore take you for a visit to Port of Tallinn.

ESPO Ports Policy Debate shows willingness to land with Port Regulation

This morning, the port industry discussed the state of play of the port regulation with Parliament and Commission. One year after EU elections, work seems to move forward with the new Transport Committee. In the debate held at the ESPO conference this morning, all speakers – Commission, Members of the EU Parliament and ports – generally expressed the wish to find an agreement on the text of the port regulation.

Dublin Port achieves high environmental recognition

Yesterday, Dublin Port received a Port Environment Review System (PERS) certificate during a dedicated ceremony at the ESPO annual conference in Athens. Mr Santiago Garcia Mila, ESPO Chairman, handed over the PERS certificate to Eamonn O’Reilly, Chief Executive, Dublin Port Company.

European ports identify their priorities for Europe’s Transport Policy ahead

Gathering in Athens for the 12th edition of its Annual Conference, ESPO has presented today its views on the Mid-Term review of the 2011 White Paper on transport. This position paper must feed the review process recently started in the Commission, which should result in an “adjustment” or “review” of the strategic document of 2011.

ESPO’s plan for next week? ESPO Conference in Athens of course!

On Thursday next week, the European Sea Ports Organisation, its members and the whole port industry are gathering in Athens for the 12th edition of ESPO’s Annual Conference. The conference will allow participants to understand which role ports are playing in the field of energy, to assess how the changing energy landscape could affect the role of ports as nodes of energy and to discover what European ports are concretely doing to improve their energy efficiency.

Digital Transport and Logistics Forum: extension of deadline to 26 May

Today, the European Commission has extended the deadline for applying to the call of the Digital Transport and Logistics Forum to 26 May. Organisations who have already submitted an application are also entitled to update it if they wish to.

Fourth Portopia workshop in Bremen

On 29 April, Bremen Ports kindly hosted the first Portopia event of 2015. The workshop took place back to back with the meeting of the Economic Analysis and Statistics Committee of ESPO. Representatives of the European Commission, of port authorities and Portopia research partners attended the workshop and jointly contributed to the progress of Portopia.

Public consultation on Birds and Habitats Directives

The European Commission has recently launched a new public consultation addressing the Birds and Habitats Directives. Through an online public questionnaire, the consultation requests interested individuals and organisations across Europe to give their views on the future of EU nature legislation, as part of a broader Fitness Check.

Port regulation: ESPO sees room for a realistic compromise between Council and Parliament

04-05-2015
Brussels, 4 May 2015 – Tomorrow, EP’s Transport Committee (TRAN) will hold a first debate on the Port Regulation proposal of May 2013. In March 2014, the EP rapporteur, Knut Fleckenstein and the main EP negotiators decided for different reasons not to vote on the proposal before the elections but to leave it to the new Parliament to pick up the thread. In the meantime, the Transport Council reached a political agreement.
